Dickow API 685 Magnetic Drive Pumps Supplied for Overseas UK Military Fuel Transfer Project

07 Jul 2026

Four API 685-compliant magnetic drive centrifugal pumps from Dickow Pumpen have recently been supplied by Michael Smith Engineers for diesel and gas oil transfer duties at an overseas UK military base.

Designed without mechanical seals, the pumps eliminate the risk of seal leakage while significantly reducing maintenance requirements, downtime and whole-life operating costs.

Reliability and durability are critical in any industrial application, but they become even more important at remote sites where access for maintenance can be difficult and costly. For this reason, Dickow's PRM Series was selected. These heavy-duty magnetic drive centrifugal pumps are engineered for a minimum expected service life of 20 years and are designed to operate continuously for at least three years between planned maintenance intervals.

The pumps supplied comprised:

  • One PRM huh 150/320 pump, long-coupled to a 37 kW, 4-pole motor, delivering 270 m³/h at approximately 30 metres differential head.
  • Three PRM huh 80/320 pumps, each long-coupled to a 75 kW, 2-pole motor, delivering 130 m³/h at approximately 105 metres differential head.

Commenting on the project, Sales Director Jason Downing said:

"Dickow and Michael Smith Engineers have a long-established reputation as a trusted supplier of pumps to NATO member military organisations, making us the ideal partner for this project."

"Having managed this technically demanding project since 2025, it's particularly satisfying to see it successfully completed. Projects of this complexity require close collaboration throughout, and we're delighted to have delivered a solution that will provide reliable, long-term service in such a demanding application."

"Projects such as this demonstrate the importance of selecting the right pump technology for challenging environments, where reliability is not simply desirable—it's essential."
